Financial Literacy
Learning Activity

Students learn about international currencies and exchange rates. They plan financial goals. Students learn how interest rates can affect savings and investments and about the cost of borrowing, comparing interest rates and fees for different types of accounts and loans.

This Learning Activity is divided into three sections. Adults should guide children through it in the following order:

Minds On: Introduces the learning concepts to be explored in the Learning Activity.
Action: Offers a focused activity to explore the content and discover key concepts.
Consolidation: Provides students with an opportunity to deepen understanding and reflect on learning.

Learning Strand

Financial Literacy

Students begin to learn that international currencies have different values compared to Canadian dollars and understand how exchange rates work. They develop an awareness of how to plan for and reach financial goals. Students build their knowledge of how interest rates can affect savings and investments. They also learn about the cost of borrowing and compare interest rates and fees for different types of accounts and loans to become more informed consumers.
