Learning Activity

Students learn to create a plan to reach financial goals and identify ways to maintain balanced budgets. They learn about loyalty and incentive programs and investigate the concepts of simple and compound interest, determining how interest affects long-term financial planning.

This Learning Activity is divided into three sections. Adults should guide children through it in the following order:

Minds On: Introduces the learning concepts to be explored in the Learning Activity.
Action: Offers a focused activity to explore the content and discover key concepts.
Consolidation: Provides students with an opportunity to deepen understanding and reflect on learning.

Learning Strand

Financial Literacy

Students will learn to create a plan to reach financial goals and identify ways to maintain balanced budgets. Students compare different ways that consumers can get value for their money when spending, such as using reward programs or taking advantage of sales. Students investigate the concepts of simple and compound interest using technology, (for example, a spreadsheet program) and explain how interest affects long-term financial planning.
